Self-help books are one my favorite book genres. I never used to one for self-help books until I picked up a book by Gretchen Rubin and became hooked. Since then I have read one self-help book after another on topics ranging from career to friendship, mindset, and everything in-between. However, what I do know from my extensive (and slightly obsessive) reading of self-help books is that not all self-help books are made the same. Some are down right ridiculous and others are filled with really awesome practical advice that and are worthy of being included on your summer reading list.

The Happiness Project  by Gretchen Rubin

This was my first self-help book and the one that got me hooked in the first place. Gretchen shares her journey to finding happiness and the little changes she decided to make to achieve that. The book is filled with really great practical advice on how you can take stock of where you are currently are and the things you can do to start your own happiness project.

Better than Before

Again another Gretchen Rubin book because the lady is simply amazing and knows what she is talking about! have you ever wondered why you keep making the same choices over and over again, even when you know they are bad?  well, it’s all in your habits and Better than before deals with how you can break bad habits and build new ones.

The things you can only see when you slow down by Haemin Sunim

While a lot of the books I mention in this post are quick reads, The author of this book encourages that you take your time when reading it. the book encourages mindfulness and self-reflection. it provides new insights on how we can view little things that happen every day, change our perspectives on them and stress less.

You are a bad ass by Jen Sincero

You are a bad ass is a super fun read. It extensively covers different topics on decision making, finances, and self-image. it essentially teaches you to embrace your inner badass and get into the mindset of making things happen for yourself.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Big Magic is a self-help book that focuses on living beyond your fears. I have yet to start reading this book but, I have heard really great things about it. it’s written by Elizabeth Gilbert writer of Eat, Pray, Love so you know it will be good.
