DIY Vision board+ Why you should make one

I first learned about vision boards while watching an episode of the Oprah Show because Oprah said it, My 12-year-old self was hell bent on making one too. Despite the enthusiasm, I didn’t actually make one until this year…yup I procrastinated for 8 years, that has to be some kind of record.

I finally decided to make my board after seeing how writing down my goals worked in helping me achieve them. So I wondered what would happen if I had my goals in front of me every day. I was excited about the possibility of more accomplishments so, I finally sat down and made one and here are some reason why you should too.

Why  you should make a vision board

Vision boards are a visual reminder of your goals and dreams

Waking up every day and seeing the things you’d like to accomplish, acts as a way to reinforce them and inspire you to work towards it. The more you go out with the things you want in mind, the more you start taking little steps towards accomplishing your goals and resolutions.

Vision boards put everything in perspective

It gives you a broad image of what you want out of life. When making a vision board you might not notice at first, but there is always a common theme. Posting a lot of travel pictures might mean you want a sense of adventure and you maybe never even realized how much you wanted it. There is something that attracts you to a picture and sometimes it’s subconscious. For example, my first vision board had a lot of women I found inspiring but it also had pictures of models, and fashion bloggers I liked. Initially, the selection seemed random until I stepped back and looked at the pictures I’d chosen. They women were confident, striding, and care free And at that time they were emotions I desperately wanted to feel. But I didn’t realize that until I took a step back and looked at the bigger picture (literally).

Vision boards make you dig deep

There’s nothing that makes you really reflect on your life like the question “what do you do for fun?” a vision board provides the same effect by making you ask yourself “ what do you want your life to look like?” and to answer this you have to take time to reflect and look ahead into what makes you happy, what makes you feel accomplished, what do you like? Basically, a vision board is the first step to actualizing your dreams for your life and it provides clarity as to where you want to go.
